Board of Directors & Advisors

We are pleased to have a very fine group of Advisory Board members. This prestigious board represents the multi-faceted medical and business communities. Each member providing direction with his or her own professional expertise.

Board of Directors:

Jane Tobal is the founder of Visionary Alternatives, Inc. Critically ill twice as an infant; Jane remained plagued with chronic health problems throughout her childhood and adolescence. These health issues continued into the college years where she found herself hospitalized for approximately two months before her 19th birthday. In order to insure her own survival, Jane began a passionate lifelong study of alternative approaches to health and the possible/probable causes of chronic illnesses, reading extensively and studying about diet, nutrition, hidden chemicals and additives in the food supply. Jane’s search for ultimate health also brought her to study the healing arts including psychic healing, Reiki and shamanism (Huna). Jane’s university studies were geared toward engineering and later a degree in Fine Arts from Florida Atlantic University, Teaching courses and certification from Palm Beach State and a Masters Degree in Curriculum Writing from Nova University. Jane has served on many non-profit boards serving as president, secretary and also as an active board member. A lifelong environmentalist and activist have had her organizing and contributing for other non-profits as well. Her associations have included Sierra Club, Greenpeace, UNICEF, UUA, Plan USA, Results, One, Public Television, Amnesty International, American Freedom from Hunger Foundation, ZPG, Noetic Sciences & The World Future Society. Jane founded Visionary Alternatives in January of 1998 to come to the aid of a dear friend who was dying of cancer. Inspired by her friend, she built a non-profit organization that would allow not only her friend, but also many more individuals the choice of alternative therapies for critical illnesses when personal funding would have been otherwise prohibitive.

Samuel Snyder, DO, Graduate of Princeton University and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, The American College of Osteopathic Internists, and the American Society of Nephrology. Dr. Snyder is the Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at Nova Southeastern University's College of Osteopathic Medicine. His work has been published in numerous scientific journals.

Ms. Platte Has been an educator most of her life. She has taught in the United States and overseas, often running her own schools. She holds a Bachelors and Masters degree in tecahing from FAU. She spent her last teaching years at the college level so, she has vast experience in educating every age level student. Joanne has been an integral part of VAI shortly after it's inception and has clearly formed ideas about the direction that we are undertaking as well as the education to make those ideas into concrete information for our educational programs.

Board of Advisors:

Dr. Edgar Mitchell: On January 31, 1971, Navy Captain Dr. Edgar Mitchell embarked on a journey into outer space that resulted in becoming the sixth man to walk on the moon. The Apollo 14 mission was NASA's third manned lunar landing. This historic journey ended safely nine days later on February 9, 1971. Scientist, test pilot, naval officer, astronaut, entrepreneur, author and lecturer, Dr. Mitchell's extraordinary career personifies humankind's eternal thrust to widen its horizons as well as its inner soul. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon University, a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and a Doctor of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT. In addition he has received honorary doctorates in engineering from New Mexico State University, the University of Akron, Carnegie Mellon University and a ScD from Embry-Riddle University. Dr. Mitchell has received many awards and honors including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the USN Distinguished Medal and three NASA Group Achievement Awards. He was inducted to the Space Hall of Fame in 1979 and the Astronaut Hall of Fame in 1998. After retiring from the Navy in 1972, Dr. Mitchell founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences to sponsor research into the nature of consciousness as it relates to cosmology and causality. In 1984, he was a co-founder of the Association of Space Explorers, an international organization of those who have experienced space travel. He is the author of "Psychic Exploration," 1974, "The Way of the Explorer," 1996, (revised edition, 2001) as well as dozens of articles in both professional and popular periodicals. He has devoted the last 30 years to studying human consciousness and psychic and paranormal phenomena in the search for a common ground between science and spirit.

Bob Staretz, Electrical Engineer brings very strong business, technical and managerial skills to the board of Visionary Alternatives, Inc. He holds a BS in electrical engineering from Tufts University and a Master of Science in electrical engineering from Ohio State University. During his professional career Bob has held various technical and management positions in High Tech industry including positions at some of this nation’s most prestigious research facilities such as Bell Laboratories, GTE Laboratories and Racal Datacom. He was a co-owner and Vice President of Research & Development for Auto Source Marketing, a marketing and market research firm specializing in the automotive industry. As Associate Vice President, he founded and ran a networking and systems integration consultancy for Vibren Technologies (an NEC company). Bob has been associated with several professional organizations, such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), The World Future Society and the Institute of Noetic Sciences. These organizations are aimed at raising awareness and understanding the implications of technology and its broader impact on society.

Gary Vandy, Graduated University of Miami..1973 with degrees in Psychology and Music with a minor in Philosophy. He was the Chief Sound engineer owner Location Sound Recording . Coconut Grove Fla. Owner of Studio in the Grove. Sound engineer owner Studio Center Sound Recording Inc. North Miami Beach Fla. Free-lance Engineer/Producer Studio experience Studio Center Miami, Kendon Recorders L.A., Media Sound N.Y., Sound Station N.Y., Hop-Scotch Studios Grand Cayman B.W.I., Sound Mixers N.Y., Brittania Studios L.A. Criteria Recording Miami, Sound Lab L.A., Morrisound, Fl., Studio Center West, Miami, Diginote, South Beach, and others. He has well over 100 albums of experience with over 30 receiving gold and platinum awards along with countless television and commercial and movie soundtracks. Voting member of Naras (Grammy Organization) and the Audio Engineering Society.

Layna Fischer, Editor/Publisher of a business book series. She was the senior editor of a leading computer publication for four years and has been involved in international computer journalism and publishing for over 18 years. Ms. Fischer was a founding director of the United States Computer Press Association in 1985. Her experiences in the computer industry include being the president and CEO of a multi-million dollar high-tech export company for seven years, during which time she also founded an offshore distribution company. She presently lives between South Florida and South Africa.

Rachel Tobal, Anthropologist & Writer. Graduate of Florida Atlantic University and Simons Rock of Bard College in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. She has done extensive fieldwork in Salango, Ecuador; one year in Seoul, South Korea; San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and six months in Rotarua, New Zealand. She earned her RN at Miami Dade College and is presently an Intensive Care nurse in a hospital in California. She brings her knowledge of Alternative and Traditional medicine to her writings.

H.R.H. Prince Michel de Yougoslavie; Prince Michel Of Yugoslavia, born in France, speaks French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and English. Graduated in Paris from the European Business School. He worked for 15 years at Sotheby's International Realty in Palm Beach as a real estate broker. Grandson of King Umberto of Italy and Prince Paul of Yugoslavia, he is related to all European Royal Families. Participates in many charities work which help children.
